With the filing deadline now passed, the City of Westminster has announced the certified candidates for the upcoming 2025 General Election, with one seat for mayor and two seats on the Common Council up for grabs.
The General Election will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Voters will elect one Mayor and two members of the Common Council, each to serve a four-year term starting May 19, 2025.
The certified candidates for Mayor are Mona Becker and Nicholas Thomas. Becker is currently serving as the Mayor of Westminster, seeking re-election.
For the Common Council, the certified candidates are Tony Chiavacci and Dan Hoff. Both Chiavacci and Hoff are incumbent council members seeking re-election.
Residents living on the west side of Maryland Route 31 will vote at the Westminster Community Building, located at the Westminster Municipal Pool. Residents on the east side of Maryland 31 will vote at the John Street Quarters, which is the Westminster Volunteer Fire Department at 28 John Street, Westminster, MD 21157.
To run for Mayor, candidates must be a qualified voter in Westminster elections, at least 25 years old at the time of swearing-in, and have been a resident of Westminster for at least two years.
For Common Council, candidates must be a qualified voter in Westminster elections, at least 21 years old at the time of swearing-in, and have been a resident of Westminster for at least one year.
April 14: Voter registration deadline (4:30 p.m.) with Carroll County Board of Elections
April 20: First campaign finance statement due (4:30 p.m.)
May 5: Second campaign finance statement due (4:30 p.m.)
May 13: Election Day (Polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.)
May 16: Third campaign finance statement due (4:30 p.m.)
May 19: Swearing-in of newly elected officials at the Special Mayor and Common Council Meeting
