Busy Saturday on Campus as McDaniel Hosts Key Conference Matchups

Men's lacrosse and women's softball play at home in Westminster

Saturday will be a busy sports day on the McDaniel College campus in Westminster as both the men’s lacrosse and women’s softball teams take the field for critical home games.

The men’s lacrosse team will be looking for its first Centennial Conference win of the season when they face local rival Hood College at noon. The women’s softball team opens up conference play with a doubleheader against Ursinus College at 1 p.m.

Men’s Lacrosse Looks to Bounce Back Against Hood

McDaniel men’s lacrosse (4-6, 0-2 CC) continues its three-game homestand on Saturday against Hood, aiming to rebound after a 15-5 loss to No. 18 Dickinson on Wednesday.

Graduate student Thomas Bethune provided a bright spot in the loss, scoring his first two goals in a McDaniel uniform. Senior Jason Fritz added a goal and an assist, moving closer to career milestones with 95 goals and 93 assists. Despite a tough first half, the Green Terror found their rhythm in the second, matching Dickinson with five goals apiece in the final two quarters.

Defensively, sophomore goalie Zach Olvey continued his strong season with 13 saves, marking his seventh double-digit save performance in nine starts.

McDaniel will look to turn things around Saturday against Hood at Gill Stadium, with face-off scheduled for noon.

Softball Riding Momentum into Conference Opener

The Green Terror softball team (8-6-1) comes into Saturday’s doubleheader against Ursinus with confidence after sweeping a road series against Notre Dame (MD) on Wednesday.

In game one, McDaniel battled back from an early 3-0 deficit to secure an 8-6 victory. Junior Taylor Applefeld and sophomore Caitlin Boden helped ignite a four-run rally in the sixth and seventh innings. Junior Sariah Guevara and sophomore Riley Jackson also played crucial roles, with Jackson’s groundout driving in the go-ahead run.

Game two saw another dramatic comeback. After leading early, McDaniel entered the sixth inning trailing 7-4 before a two-run double from senior Megan Morosko and a game-winning RBI single from sophomore Libertie Schatzman powered the Green Terror to an 8-7 win.

The team now turns its focus to Ursinus for the Centennial Conference opener. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
